Todd Dollinger gives his impressions about this years' Medica.
As Louis Pasteur wrote, “Chance favors the prepared mind”. The value of making proper preparations for conferences was, once again, made eminently clear to me at Medica; the world’s largest medical conference.
Only at Medica do you see products that run the full range of the medical spectrum – from anesthesia to zytology. The sheer size and breadth of Medica’s exhibition grounds is part of the Medica challenge – a place too vast to simply roam about in hopes of randomly bumping into the right contacts.
Seven of our portfolio companies were at Medica; two exhibited with their own booth: ETView and FlowSense. Other Misgav companies worked out of the Israel Export Institute conference space.
The companies that really got the most value out of Medica were those that did the most ground work; it’s that simple.
The best performing companies all had a critical common thread that translated into success:
- They had clearly defined goals for Medica
- They had clearly defined goals for each meeting
- They worked in a focused way to achieve those goals
We witnessed success at the ETView exhibit, where meeting after meeting with prospective distributors was conducted to build out the company’s worldwide distribution network. We also saw professional advance work with Flexicath as well; they needed to prioritize and reject meeting requests from those who did not meet Flexicath’s meeting criteria.
Some would say that these companies were lucky that Medica was so successful for them. I say that they made their own luck. Because they were well prepared, chance favored them.
